Wha-hooo for room to run! Canine Corrals is a non-profit organization designed to provide free fencing to dog owners - eliminating the need to "chain" a dog. Medical care, altering of unspayed/non-neutered animals, basic creature comforts, and education of animal needs are also provided. This blog is a chronicle of my attempts to get this project up and running.

Nay-sayers!
Had my first run in with those who think this is a useless idea! Big discussion on how once unchained the dogs will dig out or climb over. I explained the fencing method of how the fence is laid into the ground at a right angle to the vertical fence - if the dogs start to dig it will hit fencing laying flat on the ground! Next argument was that the dogs will climb up and over the fence......I guess it is possible.......I'm not sure......I will have to think on that one. Anyway - GRRRRRRR to the nay-sayers!

Working With My Team!
Spent today working on the Narrative for the non-profit status - what a legal maze! Good thing I have Rachel to help out - excellent supplier for words I can't come up with! Ha Ha! Nice to have good brain cells working - albeit a bit clumsy with the supplies! Eileen in the background is distracting us, but she has agreed to be on the Board also, so no complaints from me! I feel like we have a great group for the Board - nice representation from many sectors and committed people. My first official presentation will be this weekend - WISH ME LUCK!

Feeling inspired from tonite!
Went to a fund raiser at Del's in Bloomfield tonight......well who doesn't love Del's food! Always reminds me of going there with Aunt Alice and Uncle Bucky! Anywhoooo.... The Animal Rescue League sponsored the event. I wasnt permitted to pass out any information about "Canine Corrals", but I did get to network - what's a non-profit without a bit of networking! Also got a few leads on "who to call". Note to self: wear your glasses! That way you might be able to read the info you have written on your cheat sheet note pad!
Great to see that there are those out there who will support efforts to improve the lives of our four legged friends! Gives me HOPE!

The IRS
Well it is time to tango with the IRS!! Working on the tax exempt status form........30 pages of directions!!! I've gone thru it 2 times now and am finally starting to understand it! Yeah for me! Of course there is a fee just to file! I've got a list of questions a mile long. I have to do alot of "projecting" so it may actually help to clarify the organization of my idea. I also have to do some narratives. I also have to complete the Banfield Grant application. I also, I also, I also.........ha ha! It will all be worth it!
PS Yes I have lost track of the days so I actually have a title for this blog!

Day 3
More like a month later! Have been doing a lot of behind the scenes things - getting my official non-profit status, registering with the charities bureau, advertizing and so on! I really need to learn how to spell bureau! My notes contain some very interesting reditions!
Did alot of traveling recently - cant wait to build some fences!! Seeing some situations just drives me crazy! UCK! But I digress.......
While I have some personal funds to put into my new non-profit I really need to consider fund raising. Never have been good at asking people for money! Ever look at the New York Social Diary site? I envision a swanky fund raiser as shown on the site! Maybe Real Housewives of NYC star Jill Zarin would host something for me!!! Ok - back to earth! I am stuck on getting a web site - need to find a cheap one and that aint easy!!
Well I have paper work to do and DWTS comes on soon so I best get going!

My husband actually thought of it so Yeahhhhh for Marc! Next on my list will be the website! Wish me luck!

Day 1
This is my first step in starting work on a long-time-running wish of mine: to get rid of the idea that keeping a dog chained up in the back of the yard, away from the house, 8 ft of movement......is ok. Drives me crazy! So first steps first - I need a name for my project, a website, and I need to become a non-profit. My goal is to create an organization similar to the "Coalition to Unchain Dogs". What would be a good name???? The goal is to provide people with free fencing so that their dogs have more room. Also to educate dog owners, ensure that the dogs get basic medical care and are spayed/neutered, and eventually work on legislation to prevent the chaining of dogs. SO what do you think?? I need a catchy name - like Fences for Fido (which is already taken!) - how bout "Runs for Rover", daaaaaaa? I just dont know yet! Website - jezzzzzz - expensive! Know any cheap website developers? And then I need a you-know-what to draw up non profit papers. Just dont trust my skills to go the way of Legalzoom or whatever. Any pro-bono lawyers out there??
Well thanks for reading!
